10 years inside REDCap
I'm Jairo Chavez, a REDCap builder and research data manager. For the past decade I've designed and supported REDCap projects for research teams, hospitals and nonprofits, from a single intake survey to multi-arm longitudinal studies with consent, scheduling and alerts.
I work inside the REDCap your institution or organization already licenses. I build it, test it with dummy data, document what I built, and teach your team to run it without me.
- e-Consent with signatures
- Moving projects between institutions
- Longitudinal cardiology study
- Infection-prevention audit forms
- Patient-reported outcome surveys
- NIH data management & sharing plans
Not just the lab
REDCap is a data collection tool, and plenty of the best projects never touch a specimen. If your study collects information from people, it probably fits.
- Clinical & lab studies
Visit schedules, specimen tracking, adverse events, randomization and data quality checks.
- Interviews & focus groups
Screening and scheduling, consent, interview guides, field notes, recording uploads and transcript tracking in one project.
- Community & public surveys
Anonymous links, QR codes for flyers, several languages, and forms that work on a phone at a health fair.
- Program evaluation & QI
Intake forms, pre/post measures, observation audits, and reports your funder or leadership can read.
- Registries & chart review
Abstraction forms, double data entry and data quality checks so two reviewers' records actually match.
- Student & thesis research
A clean, IRB-ready build at the $90 student rate, plus help getting the data out for analysis.
Services
Six kinds of work, color-coded like specimen tubes. The same care whether you're collecting blood draws or interview notes.
How it works
Same order every time, whatever you're collecting.

Questions
My research isn't clinical. Is REDCap still a good fit?
Usually, yes. REDCap handles surveys, interview and focus-group tracking, program evaluations and registries as well as clinical trials, and it keeps identifiable data secure. If another tool would serve you better, I'll tell you on the free call.
Do you host REDCap?
No. REDCap is licensed to institutions and organizations, so I work in the instance you already have. Your REDCap administrator adds me as a user on your project, and I build there.
Will you see our study data?
Builds are done in development mode with dummy records. I only work with production data when your institution has approved my access, and I follow your data-use and privacy rules.
Our project is half-built and messy. Can you help?
Yes, that's what the Tune-up is for. I review the project, list what's wrong and what's risky, and fix the most important things first. Changes to live projects go through draft mode so nothing collected is lost.
Can I budget you into a grant?
Yes. I can give you a scoped estimate for a budget justification and help write the data management and sharing plan.
Do you train our team?
Every build ends with a walkthrough. Separate training sessions for coordinators, data entry staff or new REDCap users are billed hourly.
